Where Locals Actually Eat Seafood
Those beachfront restaurants with picture menus and staff waving you in? That's not where locals eat. Here's where Hua Hin residents actually go for fresh seafood.
Daddy Deli Beach House (Khao Tao)
Stunning beachfront location at Khao Tao with fresh seafood and premium quality steaks. The ocean views are incredible, and while it's not dirt cheap, the quality and setting justify every baht. Get the fresh catch of the day grilled simply with garlic and lime, or go for one of their signature steaks. Locals love this place for special occasions or when they want to impress visitors. Book ahead on weekends.
The Fishing Pier Area (Early Morning)
Get up at 6am and head to the fishing pier. Boats come in with the night's catch, and several no-name restaurants cook it right there. Point at what you want, they weigh it, quote a price, and grill it in front of you. This is as fresh as it gets—literally hours out of the water. Expect to pay 50-70% less than tourist restaurants for way better quality.
Krua Nai Phon
This place doesn't look like much, but it's packed with Thais every night. Family-run for 20+ years. The grilled squid is legendary. Everything is displayed on ice—choose what you want and tell them how to cook it. Cash only, expect to wait 15-20 minutes on weekends, worth it.
Laem Hin Seafood (But Go Off-Peak)
Yes, it's in guidebooks now, but locals still eat here because the quality is consistent. The secret? Go weekday lunchtimes when tourists aren't around and prices are better. Order the goong ob woonsen (prawns baked with glass noodles) and poo pad pong karee (curry crab). Share everything.
Jek Pia Coffeshop (Wait, What?)
Looks like a basic coffee shop, serves some of the best fresh fish in Hua Hin. Old-school Hua Hin spot where expats and Thais mix. The owner's son fishes, so you're eating what he caught that morning. Steamed fish with lime and garlic is perfection. Also great for breakfast.
The Local's Rule: If the restaurant has staff outside trying to get you to come in, keep walking. If it's full of Thai families arguing over the last table, that's your spot.
